Cake shimmer is different than that from craft shimmer. It is mostly used to decorate bread and confectionery items and uses only ingredients that are FSSAI-approved. Edible glitter, when sprinkled on cake surfaces or on top of cupcakes, creates a sparkling look. It has no taste, no preservatives, and has a shelf life of one year from the date of manufacture. It does not stick to the tongue or mouth and is digested well.
What is edible shimmer made of?
Sugar, acacia (gum arabic), maltodextrin, cornstarch, and colour additives specifically approved for food consumption, such as mica-based pearlescent pigments and FD&C colours like FD&C Blue No. 1, are common components in edible glitter or dust. Most edible glitters and dust have “edible” listed on the packaging.
